Panthenol
Provitamin B5 that hydrates, soothes and supports recovery of the skin barrier.
Definition
What is it?
Panthenol is the alcohol form of pantothenic acid, Vitamin B5. After application to the skin it converts to pantothenic acid, a basic compound the body uses to produce coenzyme A, which is required for fatty-acid metabolism.
It also has a long history outside cosmetic skincare. Panthenol was a standard ingredient in burn and wound ointments long before its adoption by K-beauty. It is equally common in hair products for shine and static control. Most cosmetic formulas use 1-5%.
How it works
How does it work?
Panthenol converts to pantothenic acid in the skin and acts as a humectant, binding water in the stratum corneum. It improves surface flexibility, reduces the feeling of tightness and supports barrier function.
