Chamomile Extract

Chamomilla Recutita Flower ExtractAnthemis Nobilis

A flower extract from the daisy family, where the blue-toned compound azulene is one of the most visible signs of its soothing role in cosmetics.

Definition

What is it?

Chamomile extract comes from the flowers of Chamomilla recutita, German chamomile, or Anthemis nobilis, Roman chamomile. Both have a long history in traditional medicine as soothing and anti-inflammatory plants, including use as tea, long before entering skincare. German chamomile contains chamazulene, which forms azulene, the deep blue compound that gives some chamomile-based products their color.

How it works

How does it work?

Chamomile's soothing reputation is supported by the real activity of several compounds, including bisabolol and the azulene family, with documented anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effects. They calm redness and reduce inflammatory signaling at the cellular level rather than merely creating an aromatic association with spa treatments. Some studies also report mild antimicrobial activity.
